Tips: Starting Youtube

1. Starting Off

  • Name your channel:

This should be something catchy, or maybe something you like, or maybe even your name. Here are some made up examples:

  • LPSChristine
  • ChocolateLPS
  • LPSAwesomeness
  • LPSPeanutButter Productions

  • Making your first video:

This video should be you introducing yourself and what you are going to be doing on your channel.

(I didn't do that but that was when I didn't know much about youtube XD)

2. Making a Series

So. You are ready to start your first series? There are a couple things you will be needing to do this.

  • An Idea

An idea is obviously crucial to making a series. Try and make it original and DO NOT copy anyone else's series. If you think that's cool you are way wrong and people will not watch it. Use your own imagination to create a brilliant idea!

  • A Place to Film

This place should be a place with little to no noise. Your room or somewhere that no one usually  goes is probably the best. This place should also have good natural lighting so that you won't have to add too much of your own. Lastly, the place you are filming at should be pretty plain. Don't have your room on your background or a window. No one wants to watch your neighbor walk his/her dog while you are making your series. Maybe against a blank wall and wood floor or table. White tables are the best but sadly I don't have one :(   And now you have the perfect place to film!

  • Something to Film With

It doesn't have to be the fanciest camera. But I would not recommend filming with your phone/tablet/webcam. Those are usually very bad quality and will make your video terrible quality. I use a Sony Hard Disk Drive Handycam Camcorder. Here is a picture of it.

  • Lighting

Lighting is pretty important because you want your viewers to see what you are filming. If you use natural sunlight or a lamp (like me XD) both of those are fine! As long as you don't film in the dark. If you need to film a night scene I recommend keeping a low light in the background so that they can still see without it being in complete blackness.

  • Script

Script writing is very important while making your lps series. Of course you don't have to have to but I feel like it helps you  organize yourself. Also so you know what to say next. It also helps you organize your storyline.

  • Editing

This  is EXTRMLY important. Please don't be one of those LPS Tubers who does it all in one shot and then posts it to youtube strait away. It will make your viewers bored and I know I get bored when watching that. Even if you don't add any background music or sound effects. Speaking of that....

  • Background Music & Sound Effects

Background music really sets the scene for your story. If your character is getting ready for school, have some bouncy happy music. If it's something depressing have some sad music. If your character(s) is/are walking through a creepy forest, add some suspenseful music. Incompetech is by far the best website for downloading free background music. It has everything you could possibly need. No viruses, I promise!

Sound effects also help your series to be more interesting if your character is drinking something, have a slurping sound effect. If your character is walking along a busy street, have some traffic noises. Freesound is what I use to get my sound effect. Again, no viruses!

3. Putting It on YouTube

  • Uploading Your Video

Depending on how long your video is, that's how long your video will take to upload it. While it's uploading you can title your video. Make sure yo title your video to match your video. You don't want your video to me called LPS:  Magic Mermaids when it's about a murder mystery.

You can also write a description. You can write a brief description of what your video is about or any information that you couldn't put in your video. Below the description box you can pick your tags. Tags help people find your video easier so be sure to put them in!

Below all of that you can pick your thumbnail after your video is done processing. Pick the one that best fits your video. If you want, you can create your own and then click the Custom Thumbnail button to the right of your thumbnails.

  • Sit Back and Wait

Now you just have to wait until your video gets some views. Remember you probably won't be getting too many views on your first video! Keep makin' em! And I'm sure you will do GREAT!

4. Getting More Views and Subs

  • Making Friends

If you are having trouble getting people to watch your video, I suggest making sure you went over the things I advised to you in the beginning of this article. If you find you followed them all, it means you just haven't been found out about yet. Try and make some friends in the LPS Tube community! I say LPS Tube community and not others because they are most likely to subscribe to you if you if they like LPS. Be friendly and don't force it on to them. DON'T say "Hey can you subscribe to my channel???" Big no no. Because if you have 1,000 subscribers, it doesn't really matter. If they don't watch you videos, then what is the point? Become friends with the person first and THEN you can ask them if they could please sub. If they have already done so, then obviously you dont have to. This creates a chain because that friend will tell their friend about your channel, then they will tell their friends etc. etc.

  • Contests/Giveaways
Contests are a great way for people to get involved in your channel! Even if it's something simple like, you make them a drawing or something. People get excited when you can win something. If you are making a contest to get more subs, include in the rules that you must be subscribed, or you must like all my videos, or you must share this video with a friend! Easy peasy!

NTMs are ALOT of work but they do result in some more subs! People want to join for the competitiveness of it. Even if you dont get alot if entries, it could be a whole ton of fun!

If you feel comfortable enough to do a giveaway. Go ahead! No one is stopping you! Just be careful you don't give away your address in the process.

I hope I could help all you first timers out there! If you have any questions, please comment down below or contact me via email, kik, or Skype.

GOOD LUCK!

  1. It won't work for me when I upload a video. It says that I have to change the file type/format. I dont know how to do that so it means that the only type of video I can upload is on the YouTube slideshow creator.
